OAU Directorate of Internal Audit Celebrates Successful 2026 Audit Week, Honours Distinguished Personalities


The Directorate of Internal Audit, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has successfully concluded its 2026 Annual Audit Week, an event widely acclaimed for its intellectual richness, excellent organisation, and recognition of distinguished individuals who have contributed to institutional development, academic excellence, and public service.

The week-long celebration culminated in the 2026 Annual Audit Lecture held on July 16, attracting eminent traditional rulers, senior university administrators, audit professionals, academics, industry leaders, and other distinguished guests. The event featured thought-provoking discussions on accountability, transparency, institutional governance, and the strategic role of internal auditing in national development.

In his goodwill message following the successful conclusion of the programme, the Vice-Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University expressed profound appreciation to the Director of Internal Audit, Mrs. Bosede Oyesanmi, for her dedication and leadership. He stated:

The Vice-Chancellor’s message underscored the University’s appreciation of Mrs. Oyesanmi’s commitment to institutional transformation and her invaluable contributions to advancing the University’s vision.

Commendations also came from several distinguished personalities. Pharm. Akinbile Adebambo Oladeyin, FPSN, described the Audit Week as “remarkably successful,” praising its excellent organisation, rich intellectual engagement, and impressive attendance by eminent traditional rulers, seasoned professionals, and other distinguished guests. He noted that the recognition of deserving personalities further demonstrated the Directorate’s commitment to excellence, integrity, and outstanding service.

Similarly, Deputy Registrar, Registry, Mr. Julius Olugbenga Oyelakin, described the Directorate as “the conscience and compass of the University,” highlighting its indispensable role in safeguarding accountability, promoting transparency, and protecting public trust. He also commended the guest lecturer, members of the Directorate, and participants for making the event impactful and memorable.

Former Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sola Akinrinade*, congratulated the Directorate on what he described as “a refreshing new way of doing things,” expressing optimism that the success of the 2026 Audit Week would pave the way for even greater accomplishments.

A major highlight of the celebration was the presentation of Awards of Recognition and Meritorious Awards of Excellence to distinguished personalities for their outstanding contributions to human capital development, academic excellence, leadership, and public service.

Among the award recipients was *Prince Sikiru Adetona Ayedun, who received the Directorate’s Meritorious Award of Excellence. In his acceptance speech, he expressed gratitude for the honour and reaffirmed his commitment to integrity, accountability, and selfless service. He stressed the importance of a strong and independent audit system in promoting transparency, strengthening institutional oversight, and ensuring responsible management of public resources.

Another award recipient described the recognition as a reaffirmation of the enduring values of service, integrity, excellence, and lifelong learning, while expressing appreciation to the Directorate for hosting a memorable 2026 Annual Audit Lecture.

The successful conclusion of the 2026 Audit Week further reinforced the Directorate of Internal Audit’s commitment to promoting transparency, accountability, professionalism, and institutional excellence within Obafemi Awolowo University. The event has been widely regarded as one of the University’s most impactful Audit Week celebrations in recent years, setting a high standard for future editions.
