The Federal Government has directed all public servants to stop using personal email services such as Yahoo Mail and Gmail for official government communications, as part of efforts to strengthen security, accountability, and professionalism across the public service.
The directive was announced by the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Esther Walson-Jack, who disclosed that all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) are to migrate to the government's official GovMail platform for official correspondence.
According to the directive, more than 115,000 active GovMail accounts have already been deployed to facilitate secure and traceable communication across the federal public service.
The Federal Government explained that the initiative is designed to:
* Enhance the security of official communications.
* Preserve institutional memory by ensuring government records remain within official systems.
* Improve accountability and professionalism in public service operations.
* Prevent the loss of critical government information when officers retire, resign, or are transferred.
The move marks another step in the Federal Government's ongoing digital transformation agenda aimed at modernizing public administration and strengthening governance through secure digital infrastructure.
