ABUJA, August 6, 2026 — The Ummah Zakat Foundation (UZF) has inaugurated its Board of Trustees and unveiled the EazyZakat digital platform, in a move aimed at strengthening transparency, accountability and efficiency in Zakat administration in Nigeria.
The ceremony, held at the National Mosque Auditorium, Abuja, attracted Islamic scholars, government officials, development practitioners, traditional and religious leaders, professionals and other stakeholders.
The Foundation said EazyZakat is designed to connect Zakat payers, beneficiaries and administrators through a technology-driven system featuring real-time tracking, beneficiary profiling, AI-driven distribution, compliance tools and integration with banks and partner institutions.
The platform will also be accessible through web, mobile applications and USSD channels, with the aim of improving beneficiary identification, reducing duplication and strengthening accountability in the collection and distribution of Zakat.
The Foundation said its strategic priorities include mobilising Zakat givers, digitising Zakat, Sadaqah and Waqf administration, and transforming the Islamic social economy.
Beyond Charity
Speakers at the event emphasised the need to move from short-term charity towards sustainable economic empowerment.
Dr. Sam Agbo said Islamic social finance could provide an avenue for addressing challenges in health, education, food security and livelihoods while helping vulnerable people become economically productive.
He stressed the importance of community ownership and interventions designed around the actual needs of local communities, particularly vulnerable populations.
The Foundation said its interventions would focus on groups including women, orphans, the elderly and other disadvantaged Nigerians, with support targeted at health, education, livelihoods, food security and emergency relief.
The initiative is anchored on the Foundation’s stated mission of strengthening trust in Zakat institutions, encapsulated in its declaration: “The obligation exists. The trusted channels need to be strengthened. UZF exists to institutionalise trust.”
With the inauguration of its Board and the launch of EazyZakat, the Foundation aims to build a more transparent and accountable Islamic social-finance ecosystem capable of supporting poverty reduction, social solidarity and inclusive development.
