Presidency Dismisses Claims Linking Chief of Staff to Fake Advisory Council, Warns Against Adeyemi's Allegations

The Presidency has reaffirmed that Mr. Adeyemi Adeniyi Matthew, who allegedly presented himself as Director-General of a non-existent Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council and Presidential Economic Advisory Council, is an impostor currently facing criminal prosecution.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by Bayo Onanuga, the Presidency said investigations by security agencies established that the purported agency never existed and that all documents used by Adeyemi to claim government appointment were forged.

According to the statement, concerns first emerged after officials of the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission reported the activities of a parallel body operating under a presidential identity. The Office of the Chief of Staff subsequently petitioned the Department of State Services and the Nigeria Police Force to investigate the alleged forgery of appointment letters and impersonation of government officials.

Investigations reportedly led to Adeyemi's arrest in Abuja in October 2025. Police recovered forged appointment letters, fraudulent official documents and evidence linking him to multiple bank accounts allegedly opened in the names of fictitious agencies. Authorities also found that he had sought diplomatic support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to obtain United States visas using the fake presidential identity.

The Presidency disclosed that Adeyemi and two alleged accomplices were arraigned before the Federal High Court on an eight-count charge bordering on forgery, impersonation and obtaining by false pretence. The matter is scheduled to continue on July 27.

The statement further described Adeyemi as a serial impostor with a history of fraudulent misrepresentation and urged politicians and members of the public to avoid spreading his recent claims against the Chief of Staff. It advised all parties to allow the court to determine the case, stressing that the matter remains sub judice.
