OAU INTERNAL AUDIT DIRECTORATE TO HOST ANNUAL AUDIT LECTURE ON TAX REFORMS AND GOOD GOVERNANCE

The Directorate of Internal Audit, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has announced its 2026 Annual Audit Lecture, a three-day programme designed to promote accountability, transparency and institutional excellence through discussions on tax reforms and internal auditing.

The event, scheduled to hold from Tuesday, July 14 to Thursday, July 16, 2026, forms part of activities marking the 65th Anniversary of Obafemi Awolowo University.

The lecture, themed "Tax Reforms as an Instrument of Good Governance: The Role of Internal Audit in Enhancing Transparency", will bring together academics, public sector administrators, tax professionals, auditors and other stakeholders to examine how effective tax reforms and robust internal audit systems can strengthen governance, improve transparency and drive sustainable national development.

Mr. Samuel Olusola Agbeluyi, mni, FCTI, a respected tax professional and public finance expert is expected to be the Guest Speaker. The event will be hosted by the Director of Audit, OAU, Mrs. B. O. Oyesanmi, while the Vice-Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University, Prof. A. S. Bamire, will serve as the Chief Host.

Activities will commence on Tuesday, July 14, with a Walk for Life and Awareness Campaign. On *Wednesday, July 15, participants will engage in a Health Talk in the morning, followed by a friendly football match between the Directorate of Internal Audit and the University Bursary in the afternoon. The programme will culminate on Thursday, July 16, with the Annual Audit Lecture.

The lecture is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. at the Africa Centre of Excellence, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.

According to the organisers, the programme aims to deepen conversations on the strategic role of internal audit in promoting transparency, accountability and integrity within public institutions, while highlighting the importance of tax reforms in advancing good governance and national development.

The Directorate reaffirmed its commitment to fostering accountability and ethical leadership, encapsulated in the programme's theme and its guiding slogan: Promoting Accountability. Ensuring Integrity. Enhancing Performance.
