ALAKE ENDORSES NATIONAL MINING TAX SUMMIT 2026, AS MAN, CITN PLEDGE SUPPORT

ABUJA, October 18, 2026 — The Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr Dele Alake, has endorsed the maiden National Mining Tax Summit 2026, scheduled to hold in Abuja from November 11 to 13, describing it as a timely initiative to deepen stakeholders’ understanding of Nigeria’s evolving solid minerals taxation regime.

In a letter dated October 6 and addressed to the Editor of The Miners, Alake commended the organisers for providing a platform to educate industry operators on the new tax framework and the procedures for collecting taxes, levies and charges within the solid minerals sector.

The minister stated that the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development welcomed the initiative, noting that revenue collection reforms under President Bola Tinubu’s administration reflect a renewed commitment to progressive taxation and improved revenue mobilisation.

According to him, a key component of the reforms is the introduction of a new solid minerals taxation regime involving the joint management of the sector’s taxation by the ministry and the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS).

Alake expressed confidence that the summit would sensitise mining operators and other stakeholders to the new procedures, tax obligations and platforms established to facilitate efficient revenue collection.

He formally endorsed the summit and wished the organisers successful deliberations.

The minister’s endorsement follows similar expressions of support from the Miners Association of Nigeria (MAN) and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN), reinforcing the significance of the summit to the mining and taxation professions.

In a letter dated September 16, 2026, MAN President, Dele Ayanleke, accepted the association’s invitation and endorsed the summit. The association described the initiative as timely and essential to sustainable economic growth, pledging to contribute its expertise, participate in panel discussions and engage with other stakeholders.

Similarly, the CITN confirmed its participation in a letter dated September 4, signed by its Registrar and Chief Executive, Afolake Oso.

The institute nominated Azeez Alatoye, Lead Legal Consultant at Ascension Legal Services and Dean of CITN’s Extractive Industry Tax Faculty, as keynote speaker. Alatoye is expected to deliver a paper titled “Aligning Mining Operations with Current Tax Laws.”

CITN also nominated Wahab Omoniyi, Assistant Director and Head of Budget at the Nigerian Geological Survey Agency, and Chairman of the institute’s Solid Minerals Sub-Committee, as a panellist.

The National Mining Tax Summit is being organised by Miners Communications Limited, publishers of The Miners Magazine and The Miners Online, in partnership with Secom Limited and Lambard Consulting.

The event is expected to convene government regulators, mining companies, investors, tax professionals, policymakers and other industry stakeholders to examine the implications of Nigeria’s changing fiscal framework for the solid minerals sector.

Key discussions will centre on aligning mining operations with current tax laws, improving compliance, strengthening government revenue, promoting investment and ensuring that taxation contributes to sustainable growth in the mining industry.

The summit comes amid growing attention to the diversification of Nigeria’s revenue base and the strategic role of the solid minerals sector in economic development.

The endorsement by the minister, alongside the support expressed by MAN and CITN, is expected to strengthen stakeholder participation and promote informed dialogue on the effective implementation of the country’s mining taxation reforms.
